FAQs

Where are your knives made?

Our kitchen knives are made in Seki (Japan), Somerset (UK), Sakai (Japan) and Sheffield (UK).

What steel do you use?

Everyday range: We use SK4 steel, a carbon steel renowned for its ability to get sharp and stay sharp. A true work horse in kitchens.

Forged range: We use 52100 for our Somerset blades, which is a local British carbon steel.

Sakai range: We use Aogami 2 carbon steel. This is one of the best steels in the world.

What are the handles made out of?

The handles are made out of plastic heading to landfill. The plastic is collected, washed, shredded and melted into the handle shape. As a result, every handle has a different pattern, telling a different story. No two handles are ever the same.

Which makers do you work with?

We work with a variety of incredible makers to craft our goods. David in Sheffield makes our cutlery, Goto in Seki makes our 'Everyday' knives, Joe and Jimmy in Somerset make our 'Forged' knives, Yoshikazu in Sakai makes our Japanese forged knives, Martin in Lancaster collects all of the plastic waste and melts it into our handles in Lancaster and Diana in London makes our aprons and knife wraps.

How are you able to price your knives so reasonably?

We want to make beautiful knives accessible for the home cook. We work towards a tighter margin because we are passionate about creating quality products at a more affordable price point.

Do you still sell knives in batches?

Yes! We now have permanent ranges available all the time, and on top of this we will still be releasing limited edition batches every few months - sign up to our emails for all updates.

How do I care for my knife?

Inside each knife box we have a section on knife care, detailing the Dos and Donts for caring for your blade. If you have any questions, just drop us a message.

How do I sharpen my blade?

We recommend using a Japanese whetstone to sharpen your blade - a 1000/3000 or 1000/6000 combination stone from Shapton, King or Naniwa is a great choice. We are selling whetstones in our 'Accessories' tab.

Do all handles look different?

Yes, whilst all handles have the same plastic 'recipe' going into them, they are all unique to each other. You will be the only one with that exact type of handle in the world.

What comes in each box?

Inside your knife box you will receive knife care instructions, a penny for good luck, a 'meet the maker' card, a limited edition sticker (and your knife!).
